Our (Caymanian) son, Brandon, has Cerebral Palsey, developmental delay and hearing loss. We lived in the States while he was in dire need of medical care. He stabilized, and we are back home now. We have been fighting for insurance coverage for him for 9 months now. This is such a shame on our Government to not help their own people - the States provided coverage for Brandon while he was there - but not here, our home. I find it so incredibly insensitive and ignorant for the Cayman Islands Government to not offer the best care possible to our people who cannot care for themselves. Brandon and other special needs children did not have a choice. They were born with or acquired challenges that we will never ever fully comprehend or understand. Help Special Needs children C.I. Government - open your blinded eyes!

Well said, I will add as Brandon's father and a Caymanian father of a Caymanian child with special needs, who is the grandson of a Caymanian...and so on for many generations. As a Caymanian I am absolutely embarrassed and ashamed that we as a people think so little about those who simply can not do for themselves. I am so very disappointed that a "Christian" community would allow the afflicted be passed over in such an obvious way. I am disgusted by the Cayman Islands Government's (past and present) lack of action and funding for programs for these citizens. I am now enraged at the present attempts to cut funding for the very wanting programs that are in place now. Just a fraction of the wasted funds that go to other government funded programs, (Cayman Airways, Boatswains Bay, PWD, NRA...) could actually help many of our citizens with special needs. Their care is not an option, it is an obligation.
